Price depends on space requirements
Do you have an even bigger telescope? We’ll find the perfect spot for these too!
What does renting a pier include?
You will be provided with your own LAN connection and power outlet in a network cabinet. As a customer, you will have access to our secure network, and your pier will have its own isolated area inside that network. You will also have access to all weather data and can use it in your telescope-control software. You will also have access to the general surveillance cameras in the observatories.
Not included—but handy: You can purchase a UPS through us, since shipping such devices can sometimes be problematic. Just let us know!
What do you need to provide?
Of course - the telescope. And the mount. Your power supplies, all the cables that are needed and comprehensive documentation of your setup.
All devices must be controllable either via your computer or over the network. You’ll need a LAN switch with enough ports to accommodate all your network devices. You’ll also need a network-enabled power-outlet with a LAN connection. Make sure the model you choose can handle any high inrush currents from the power supplies.
Mini-PCs mounted directly on the telescope have proven effective for telescope control. Power distribution boxes from various manufacturers are also widely used here, allowing you to supply power to your astronomical equipment separately.
Service? Who takes care of your setup?
We offer comprehensive on-site service. Your rental includes a set number of service-hours, which—based on our experience—will easily cover a full year of service. If you need additional service, you can purchase more time at any time at a fair rate.
But we don’t just offer on-site service. As you can probably imagine, there’s no package delivery in such a remote location. We’ll take care of picking up your shipment if, for example, you’re sending replacement parts. We can also source replacement parts for you in Namibia, depending on availability.
Can someone else set up my equipment for me?
Yes, we can receive your equipment from the shipping carrier and set it up for you. The setup includes assembling the mount and the telescope, attaching all additional parts, and putting the system into operation. It also includes polar alignment, checking the alignment, camera alignment, and similar tasks. Ideally, you should send us a setup that has been thoroughly tested and is as far along in the assembly process as possible when it arrives. It is absolutely essential that all cables be labeled at both ends and that comprehensive documentation, including pictures, be provided.
